Malaga, February 16th, 2024 – Transfiere, the European Forum for Science, Technology, and Innovation, will host its 2024 edition from March 20th to22nd at the FYCMA (Trade Fairs and Congress Centre of Malaga). It has released a preview of the programme’s content. Showcasing a comprehensive lineup with more than 70 panels during these three days, the forum brings forth the most extensive European agenda on innovation. Confirmed sessions include keynote speeches and roundtable discussions covering topics such as data sovereignty, open innovation, territoriality, investment, entrepreneurship, internationalisation, and financing, all of them focused on enhancing the transfer and advancement of knowledge in the RD&I domain.

More than 400 global innovation leaders from the business sector, public administrations, and academia will participate in this event, fostering connections and driving scientific and technological development to promote competitiveness, growth, and progress. Transfiere will once again establish Malaga as the focal point of discussion regarding the latest scientific and technological advancements on the global stage, bringing together key figures from the innovation ecosystem.

Transfiere Programme

The 2024 edition allocates significant focus on the territorial innovation landscape in Spain, underscoring a firm commitment to initiatives that enable regions to adapt to new technological paradigms, encouraging dynamism and enhancing competitiveness through the interaction of stakeholders, resources, and infrastructure. Transfiere acts as a platform for collaboration among various regions in Spain, reinforcing innovation policies across a dozen Spanish regions, such as Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Navarra, the Basque Country, and the Valencian Community.

Furthermore, the theme of data sovereignty takes centre stage this year, with exploration of cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, big data technology, the PERTE Chip, supply chain security, and R&D projects in the field of the Internet of Things (IoT).

Additionally, Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) will be a prominent topic throughout the programme, showcasing projects led by local and regional public administrations in Spain. Noteworthy presentations include the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation, alongside progress in health and innovation, focusing on issues such as active and healthy ageing, as well as developments in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological fields. Advancements in water and drought research are also highlighted. The area of research and knowledge transfer between academia and industry stands out, facilitating collaboration and the sharing of insights between Europe and Latin America.

Moreover, specialised sessions by the Research Institutes of the University of Malaga will be conducted, and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) will present award-winning projects from its call for the best invention, aimed at recognising the protection of research results through patents and utility models granted. This section encompasses one of Transfiere’s most prominent aspects – the presence and exhibition of prototypes from research groups, technological centres, and public companies.

Entrepreneurship and open innovation will be focus areas in the forum’s programme, featuring events such as a demo day for startups participating in the APTENISA Business Acceleration Programme, spearheaded by the Association of Science and Technology Parks of Spain (APTE) and co-financed by ENISA (National Innovation Company) – an entity under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. The forum will also promote the fifth edition of the Open Call for Deep Tech Start-ups, coordinated by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and the European Business Angels Network (EBAN), providing emerging companies with increased visibility among national and international investors, thereby facilitating access to funding for innovative projects in early stages of development. Investment and financing, along with scientific communication and dissemination, are also key aspects of the programme.

Transfiere is jointly organised by the City Council of Malaga, the Regional Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation of the Junta de Andalucía, and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. FYCMA assumes executive direction of the event.
