Specifically, more than half of these events were related to innovation, technology and the digital economy, which continue to gain prominence in a schedule fully aligned with the city’s positioning in these sectors

Málaga, August 2, 2024.- FYCMA (Trade Fairs and Congress Center of Málaga), part of Malaga City Council, continues to attract flagship events in advanced economic sectors, as reflected in the activity report for the first part of 2024. Events such as H&T, Innovation Summit for the Hospitality Industry; Transfiere, European Meeting on Science, Technology and Innovation; and CM Málaga, Culture & Museums International Tech Forum, lead a calendar that prioritizes professional activities in general -accounting for 80 percent of the total events in this category- with a particular focus on innovation, technology and the digital economy. This is one of the main highlights of the activity evolution from January to July, during which more than half of the 86 events held, including trade fairs, congresses, conventions, seminars, and other gatherings, were linked to these fields.

This calendar is a significant asset for the innovation ecosystem established in the city, due to its potential to attract companies and professionals who are driving global projects, sharing specialized knowledge, generating business opportunities, and stimulating talent and investment. Thus, in addition to the aforementioned forums, all organized by FYCMA itself, national and international operators and organizers have chosen FYCMA to host their trade fairs and congresses related to these sectors, such as the III Cybersecurity Congress; Finsurtech; AI Tech Summit; DES-Digital Enterprise Show, one of the world’s major events on digital transformation; and a new edition of eCongress Málaga. Special mention goes to new events like Guadalindie, the largest indie video game fair in the South, and Talent Land España, the major innovation and talent showcase.

In addition, the calendar includes a series of medical-healthcare events that have taken place since the beginning of the year, such as the respective congresses of the Spanish Society of Digital Dentistry and New Technologies (SOCE), the Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine (SEME) -which has been held regularly in Málaga since 2014-, the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery (SENEC), the Spanish and Ibero-American Congress of Environmental Health (SESA), the Spanish Society of Spine Surgery (GEER), and the Spanish and Andalusian Societies of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG and SAGG).

Business development and the generation of specialized business contacts have also inspired other events on the calendar, such as the VIII EFPA Congress, the annual meeting of the European Financial Planning Association; the European convention of IAGTO – The Global Golf Tourism Organisation; Padel World Summit; TedxMálaga; the Employment Fair of IMFE-Málaga City Council; and the annual meeting of the Provincial Association of Transport Entrepreneurs (APETAM), among others.

FYCMA’s programming during the first months of the year has brought together more than 118,000 attendees, about 60 percent of whom were professionals. Additionally, it has generated an estimated economic impact of over 115 million euros in the region, according to criteria adopted by the sector through the Spanish Trade Fairs Association (AFE) and the Spain Convention Bureau. This impact includes direct income associated with the event’s celebration -such as the average daily expenditure of attendees or planning and production costs- indirect income -resulting from contracts with local suppliers- and induced income, linked to the overall stimulation of consumption in the region as a consequence of this activity.
